Document Solutions (3rd Quater Fiscal 2008 Earnings)

The Document Solutions recorded higher sales of color digital multifunction devices, particularly in Asia-Pacific region including China, as well as robust exports of such products to Europe and North America. As a result, segment sales rose 4.3% above the level in the same period of the previous fiscal year, to ¥876.7 billion.

The Document Solutions segment's operating income grew 9.7%, to ¥60.7 billion. We recorded higher SG&A expenses accompanying our moves to expanding operations in the growing markets of Asia-Pacific region including China. However, this was more than offset by growth in exports to North America and Europe and higher sales in Asia-Pacific region including China as well as by such factors as the reduction of procurement costs and a drop in processing expenses resulting from productivity-enhancement measures.
