Information Solutions (1st Quarter Fiscal 2009 Earnings)

In the Information Solutions segment, we enjoyed strong demand for FPD materials and a positive trend in sales of such optical device products as lens units for camera phone. These factors boosted revenue to ¥265.2 billion, up 1.2% from the same period of the previous year.

Despite the rise in sales volume of mainstay products, the segment's operating income was depressed by such factors as the impact of yen appreciation and the surging prices of raw materials. As a result, operating income declined 22.0% from the same period of the previous fiscal year, to ¥26.3 billion.
