Shigetaka Komori, President and CEO of FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation, has been awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by Horst Koehler, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany. The award ceremony was held on November 20 at 11:00 in the morning at the German Embassy in Japan, where His Excellency Dr. Hans-Joachim Daerr, German Ambassador to Japan, conferred the order upon Mr. Komori on behalf of President Koehler.
The order was established in 1951 and is awarded by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany to those people who have made a significant contribution to Germany in various fields.
The order was conferred to President Komori for his significant contributions to the “Deutschland in Japan”(*), his promotion of friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and Germany as chairman of the Japan-Germany Association since June 2003, and for his personal efforts in playing a major role for the promotion of exchange between both countries.
(*) In response to the “Japan in Deutschland” held in Germany from 1999 to 2000, the “Deutschland in Japan 2005/2006” was held in the year starting April 2005 and ending March 2006. Various events focusing on culture, science and economics sponsored by the federal government, German state governments, cultural institutions and private enterprises, were held across the country in an effort to further strengthen understanding and friendship between both countries. Fujifilm has sponsored such events as the, “Mirror of the World: The Dresden State Arts Collection in Japan” exhibit, “I Love Germany Photo Contest” and “Japan-Germany Soccer Event” in recognition of the “Deutschland in Japan”.
