Fundamental and Core Technologies

 

As stated in the VISION75, Medium-term Management Plan, the continued creation of new businesses is vital for the sustainable growth of the Fujifilm Group. Deepening and broadening fundamental and core technologies is also required.
The Fujifilm Group uses the term “fundamental technologies” as a generic category of technical fields that encompass a number of core technologies bearing a commonality and that have wide applicability and impact on business expansion (for example, on performance or productivity). Core technologies are defined as the wellspring for differentiating our products and the key for establishing a sustainable competitive advantage far into the future.

Fujifilm Group's Fundamental Technologies

This inorganic material technology draws upon crystal formation control technology for nano-scale inorganic particulates cultivated in the field of photography and other related technologies. It significantly contributes to establishing the differentiating characteristics of Fujifilm products, including high quality and excellent stability. It has been applied and extensively utilized for products including photosensitized materials, recording materials, printing materials and toners.

Highly functional films are manufactured by forming a thin film, applying a functional material on the film surface, and then implementing surface modification. Technologies applied in each step collectively comprise the foundation of the manufacturing technologies that Fujifilm has cultivated and utilized for various functional films, including display optical, recording and graphic materials.


This technology is used to design and synthesize organic materials and polymer materials with various high-level characteristics. Those characteristics include optical, chromogenic and luminescent properties, the redox property and high durability, which are required for functional materials. Organic material technology has been widely applied to display materials, semiconductor materials and the life sciences.

Fields such as medical, printing and imaging involve reading image information and optical recording. Optical technology is a key for these functions. Fujifilm's optical technology, developed over the course of pursuing high image quality, is used in the design of lens units for digital cameras and camera phones as well as lasers and WV films (film that substantially widens the viewing angles of LCDs).


Fujifilm supports its advanced material development in diverse fields, with analysis, evaluation and simulation technologies at nano, molecular and even atomic scale such as performance analysis and simulation technologies essential to the functional design of materials.

Drug development technology is a new fundamental technology which supports Fujifilm's growth. We continue to create and cultivate this technology by integrating proprietary advanced technologies, which take advantage of our participation in other fields, with pharmacological evaluation, drug synthesis and drug analysis technologies necessary for drug development.


This is Fujifilm's proprietary advanced technology to flexibly handle the wide variety of images required in various related fields such as medical, printing and imaging. With our broadening business fields, this technology continues to be expanded and deepened, widely contributing to the strengthening of equipment and software functions as well as capability in designing of device materials.

In equipment and systems used in the medical, printing and imaging fields, various technologies ranging from image processing to networking are introduced. The software technology which supports these technologies generates high added value for our products.


In addition to the technologies obtained through our pursuit of high-quality images over the years, which have been refined to handle high quality images, we also possess energy-saving and eco-compatible technologies as well. All these resources are applied to design hardware for digital cameras and medical equipment, etc.
